1241-5th Street, Santa Monica, CA This mixed-use development has five levels of apartments above ground-level commercial and three levels of subterranean parking. Utilizing the severe zoning setback requirements, each apartment is designed around its own large central open space, creating an outdoor room for dining and living-room activities to “spill out,” taking full advantage of the mild coastal climate. The otherwise sparse white plaster facade is punctuated by large glazed openings below overhangs, recalling nearby landmark apartment buildings designed by Rudolf Shindler and Richard Neutra.
7926 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood – This 4-story, 63-unit condominium complex fronts a unique section of Hollywood Boulevard predominantly comprised of single-family residences. This project responded to the community’s desire to develop a structure that would complement the existing neighborhood character. Thus, the building has 2-story and 3-story town homes and 1-story flats. The condo’s interior units view the lush Hollywood hills to the north and downtown Los Angeles to the south.
